Prague Part 1

For my birthday weekend we decided to take a road trip to Prague. We booked a little hotel that was in the middle of the Old Town and planned to park the car for the weekend and just wander around the city.  We had a great weekend and took a ton of pictures so this will be split up into 2 blog posts, part 1 and part 2.  On most of our European trips we jam pack sightseeing in so this was one trip where we didn't have an itinerary (gasp) and just planned to hit up a few places that I wanted to see and enjoy the city. I loved loved loved Prague. It was a beautiful city and the Christmas decorations throughout the town were absolutely amazing. Many of the hotels in town were super expensive but with great research we found a cheap but clean hotel within walking distance of everything I wanted to see. We stayed at the Residence Bene and although it wasn't the fanciest hotel we have stayed at it was exactly what the reviews said. It was clean, had free breakfast, secure parking, and in walking distance to everything we wanted. Some reviews said the towels were rough so me being me, brought our own towels so all was good! And those reviews weren't lying I have never felt a towel so rough in my life! But like I said we brought our own so we were good. Now on to the fun part, Prague!

The first night we got in pretty late due to traffic on the autobahn so we checked in to the hotel and then headed to TGIFridays. It was so good. Normally I love to try the local food but I was okay with hitting up some American style restaurants instead of having local goulash or pork knuckle. Although the pork knuckle looked really good! The Czech money is a bit outrageous compared to the dollar and what seems like a ton of money really isn't. We had a 2000 bill but it was really only about 100 dollars. It took a bit to get used to so I made a cheat sheet and kept pulling it out to see how much things really were!

Our second day, we headed to Old Town Square where the Christmas market was and went to see the Astronomical Clock. The clock tells more than the time, it also tells the seasons, and zodiac signs as well as the position of the sun and moon. We then stopped for Starbucks (yumm) and headed on to the Charles Bridge. From there I had the bright idea to walk to the castle instead of taking one of the many trams. Did I mention it was uphill?!?! We finally made our way back to our hotel for a little nap before heading to the Christmas market for the evening. The market was beautiful and we totally enjoyed all the yummy food and drinks they had to offer.

On our last full day we slept in which is something we don't normally get to do on vacation and then headed to the mall. The mall was beautiful and is apparently the glitziest mall in all of the Czech Republic. Needless to say, we only bought stuff from the market, nothing from any of the other shops! We wandered around the area some more and then headed back to the Old Town area for a linner at Hard Rock Cafe which is one of our traveling traditions. After linner we walked back to the Charles bridge to see the views at night and then hung out in the Old Town Square between quaint outdoor heated cafes and the Christmas market it was a wonderful night.

On Monday we got up had breakfast and headed home. It was a great way to kick of our holiday break and we truly had a blast. Prague is a beautiful city that is really indescribable. I hope you enjoy the pictures, we truly enjoyed our trip! Don't forget to check out part 2!

These were super good pastries. We had one that was totally filled with nutella on the inside. Yummo!

The hollow pastry is not fried although it seems like it is, it is grilled over a charcoal grill. Kinda crazy but still yummy!
